InterContinental London - The O2

Luxury service for InterContinental London, The O2

Intercontinental London

MEIKO dishwashing features throughout the hotel including multiple installations of M-iQ rack and flight transport dishwashers

The new 453-bedroom 18-storey InterContinental London –The O2 – is a 7.6-acre development on the Greenwich Peninsula, adjoining the O2 arena, opposite Canary Wharf and only a short walk from The Emirates Air Line cable car over the Thames.

The riverside location also accesses the nearby Thames Clipper boat services to central London and Greenwich and the Jubilee underground line offering fast links to London’s West end and City Airport.

Featuring a dedicated conference centre with a 3,100 square metre pillar-free, 3,000 capacity ballroom with pre-function area overlooking the River Thames, plus 20 other spaces hosting up to 500. There are also five restaurants and bars and a luxury spa with indoor swimming pool. The InterContinental London - The O2 is managed and operated by the Arora Group under  franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group.

Installation of the catering facilities was carried out by Airedale Group and MEIKO dishwashing features throughout the hotel including multiple installations of M-iQ rack and flight transport dishwashers, servicing the main restaurant, conference and banqueting facilities.

"The colour coding makes for easy, visual explanation and the system really does work well."

Executive Sous Chef Michael Sodah joined the hotel from the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel. “I knew from my experience at the Park Plaza – which also has MEIKO dishwashing – that we had the best machines on the market here.“

“The main dishwash area servicing the banqueting operation features two M-iQ machines; one dedicated flight machine for crockery and a rack machine for cutlery and glassware. This area is also supported by a DV 80.2 GiO machine next door, which handles small functions. “The banqueting operation could be catering for more than 3,000 covers in one hit and we needed something we can rely on to deliver great results.”

The hotel’s usual compliment of kitchen staff includes 30 chefs and 10 porters, but for major events up to 80 chefs and 60 KPs could be required. “What I particularly like,” continues Sodah, “is that it is easy for the porters to understand what is required for cleaning. Basically, anything coloured blue needs removal – it is so straightforward and a real help given the mix of languages here. The colour coding makes for easy, visual explanation and the system really does work well.”

MEIKO’s latest M-iQ conveyor and basket transport warewashing systems deliver huge energy and chemical savings compared to conventional warewashing systems. The rack and flight transport dishwasher’s use 33% less water and detergent than their predecessors, while delivering a 30% improved cleaning performance thanks to the high-pressure wash system. Each machine is built to order.

Heat recovery is incorporated as standard – there is no need to purchase separate heat recovery equipment any more, creating savings of between £5,000 and £8,000 on installation depending on the size of machine.
